Canes - Pens Match up

Carolina Hurricanes (22-20-5-49) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (23-20-4-50)

The Penguin's will host the Hurricanes at Mellon Arena Tuesday night for the final game before the All Star break. Pen's forward Pascal Dupuis tried to get some time in before the break, but he is not feeling 100% yet. He's only had one practice since the injury seven games ago and feels it would be best for the team and his health to sit out tonight. Max Talbot and Sergei Gonchar were spotted at the Tuesday morning practice, most likely in anticipation of a big return after the eight day break. Brooks Orpik will also be absent for his second straight contest after suffering an injury during the Anaheim game.

The defense has returned to their brutally effective form since Gonchar began skating during practice. I have a feeling that was a huge confidence boost for the younger guys and a wake up call for our older players (anyone over 30). I was hoping to see recently acquired goaltender Mathieu Garon get some action before the All Star break but after Fleury's performance on Sunday, he deserves a tenth consecutive start.

PENGUINS
Forwards Tyler Kennedy and Mike Zigomanis left Wednesday night's game with undisclosed injuries. Kennedy is a scratch and Zigomanis is currently listed as probable. Due to the current injuries, tonight we will see the return of Janne Pesonen and Chris Minard.

Pesonen ranks third in points for the WBS Penguins with 16 assists and 5 goals.
Minard currently ranks second in the AHL with 13 assists and 17 goals.

Dany Sabourin will be in goal for his first back-to-back start this season.

HURRICANES
Maurice circa '95
In an attempt to revive their team, coach Peter Laviolette was fired and replaced by Paul Maurice. Carolina is trying to rekindle the chemestry they once had when the franchise made the move from Hartford by bringing back their former coach.

After suffering a groin injury against the Ducks, Cam Ward is expected to sit out tonight's game and will be replaced by Michael Leighton
