A 21 year deal between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Consol Energy has been made for naming rights to the new multi-purpose arena. Consol Energy and the Penguins began expanding their partnership last year when the company sponsored the big screen placed outside Mellon Arena last year during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Consol has been a part of the region for more than 140 years now, and is doing a lot to keep and create new jobs for area residents, already creating construction jobs. The new arena should attract new and time-honored concerts, family outings, and many other events.

It will be sad to see the igloo go after being such a staple in Pittsburgh history, but a new arena for such an exciting and historic franchise has been long overdue.
